The collection spans the years 1930 through 1997 and contains correspondence to and from Harold O. Lee, his parents, friends, and the War Department, as well as an autobiographical reminiscence, and a few photographs and newspaper clippings. The materials include letters, newspaper clippings, personal writings, report cards, telegrams, stamps, and tax information. The letters, dating from 1930-1990, which form the largest portion of the collection, are arranged according to addressee, and chronologically thereafter.

Harold O. Lee enlisted in the armed forces after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was scheduled to depart for training 3 days after his 21st birthday on December 31, 1941. After his initial training at Dodd Field, Fort Sam Houston, and Sheppard Field, near Wichita Falls, Harold was sent to Scott Field, Illinois for his Air Corps training.
